Beware of Today’s “Christian” Music

Listening to “Christian” music on the radio, it’s not too hard for me to see why we have such a famine in the land for the Word of God. The fluff and outright blasphemy that people love to hear these days could not be tolerated if people were hearing the Word preached in their churches, and studying the Word for themselves at home. I get so disgusted and angry when I turn on Christian radio these days, that sometimes my oldest daughter will change the station because she knows I’m about to blow a gasket and go on a five minute rant about the apostasy in our modern day “churches.”

I know there are still some good songs out there, but in general, the music that fills the airways in America is mostly kingdom-now, social justice, promotion of self, and generally weak-kneed noise that barely, if ever, mentions the name of Jesus or takes lyrics directly from scripture. All of which is being promoted world wide to ready the masses for the coming of antichrist and the one world religion that will be more palatable for all religions once they remove the name of Jesus and promote global peace and unity. I would definitely say that there is a direct correlation between the gospel/prophecy-deficient words coming from our pulpits and the empty lyrics filling up our heads as we listen to mainstream “Christian” entertainers.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Timothy 4: 3-4

Now I know that not all Christian music is worship music, but lyrics do matter. Music can be so deadly to our spirit if we are memorizing and singing along with heretical lyrics. The song that really irritated me the other day as I listened to the lyrics was MercyMe’s “Grace Got You.” In general it’s another light-hearted song about cheap and easy grace; but, the lyric that just slapped me in the face was “Smile like you just got away with something Why? ‘Cause you just got away with something.” I take extreme offense when I hear someone that’s supposed to be my brother in Christ making the Lord’s ultimate sacrifice cheap and easy. The free gift of grace that we receive was payed for by our Savior’s blood. He was beaten and tortured to death, and He did it willingly for all who believe in Him to be saved from the wrath to come that we actually earned. You can’t receive that grace standing on your feet, giddy with the fact that you are getting away with your sin, but only on your knees in repentance and sorrow for your sin. This simple fact of grace obtained only through repentance is no longer being uttered from our pulpits; and as a result, the biblically illiterate masses love to hear light-hearted songs that make them feel happy about their sin.

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Hebrews 6: 4-6

Grace Got You by MercyMe

Have you ever met those who

Keep humming when the song’s through?

It’s like they’re living life to a whole different tune

And have you ever met those that

Keep hoping when it’s hopeless

It’s like they figured out what the rest haven’t yet

The second when you realize

When you have inside

It’s only just a matter of time ’til you

Sing, so the back row hears you

Glide, ’cause walking just won’t do

Dance, you don’t have to know how to

Ever since, ever since grace got you

Laugh, ’til your whole side’s hurting

Smile like you just got away with something

Why? ‘Cause you just got away with something

Ever since, ever since grace got you

So when you’re standing in the rain again

You might as well be dancing

Why? ‘Cause there ain’t no storm that can change how this ends

So next time when you feel blue

Don’t let that smile leave you

Why? ‘Cause you have every reason just to

Sing, so the back row hears you

Glide, ’cause walking just won’t do

Dance, you don’t have to know how to

Ever since, ever since grace got you

Laugh, ’til your whole side’s hurting

Smile like you just got away with something

Why? ‘Cause you just got away with something

Ever since, ever since grace got you

Ever since, ever since grace got you

Grace got you

Got away with something, bubbling inside of you

Spilling over ’cause your life is full, how incredible

Undeniable, monumental like the Eiffel

Uncontrollable, let the joy flow through, ha ha

Giddy oh, but pretty, pretty please

Let me see your hands in the air with you out your seats

Warm it up, let go, shout it out, celebrate

When you can’t articulate just say Amazing Grace

The second when you realize

When you have inside

It’s only just a matter of (only just a matter of)

It’s only just a matter of time ’til you

Sing, so the back row hears you

Glide, ’cause walking just won’t do

Dance, you don’t have to know how to

Ever since, ever since grace got you

Laugh, ’til your whole side’s hurting

Smile like you just got away with something

Why? ‘Cause you just got away with something

Ever since, ever since grace got you

Yeah yea yea yea yea

Ever since, ever since grace got you

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Grace got you

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Ever since, ever since Grace got you

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Grace got you

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Thankfully there are still some Christian artists out there that produce music that is scripturally sound and uplifting to the spirit. These musicians won’t be heard on K-Love or any other mainstream Christian station; not because they aren’t talented, but rather because their lyrics don’t fit into satan’s agenda.

The song, “The Road” by Samuel Lane is one of my favorites, and hopefully you can see why as you hear the lyrics for yourself. Take a second to compare these two songs. Can you see the vast difference between celebrating your sin gleefully on the one hand, and placing your faith in Jesus’ blood as you take the narrow road on the other hand? There’s no comparison, if you have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside you.

The Road by Samuel Lane

It’s a long and narrow road

I’m on my way

With Your blood for my soul

I’ll be okay

Hold me close and keep me sure

That I won’t fall

To do Your will and to be pure

I hear the call

Lead me on Your path, Lord, lead me home

Guide me through the valley, the narrow road

Only You can save me, You broke the fall

Your spirit like a fire to my soul

It’s a long and broken road that leads to life

The rain will come, the cold wind blow, I’ll be alright

So I will rise for there is hope in the risen Son

To Your light and to Your home You lead me on

For your fire, for your soul

Jesus waits, Jesus calls

Satan is in every facet of our world. He controls the music, the movies, the governments, the currencies, and yes, most of the churches. It is prophesied that all of these things would be happening in these last days and none of this should take you by surprise if you are awaiting our Savior’s return.

Take heed of this warning and separate yourself from the rising apostasy. The organized church is full of tares, that on that day will be gathered into bundles to be burned in the fire; but, we who are the wheat will be gathered into the Lord’s barn. (Matthew 13: 24-30)

  1. The timing of your message and looking over the lyrics you shared…do you think that is influenced by the kundalini spirit that I’ve been hearing about? I don’t recall the last time I listened to KLove and I used to all the time. Now, I just search for songs of worship on YT and listen via that playlist.

    1. Maybe so, there are so many variations and distortions out there. I know the hypercharasmatic churches are bringing in the kindalini spirit along with their lying signs and wonders. Satan gives the masses many choices and flavors of apostasy to choose from and the people love to have it so. God bless you!

  2. That ONE line… “cause you just got away with something” send me into a 20 minute convo with my teenagers as we drove to school… it’s a catchy song music-wise but those words were so crazy to me. Ugh. Thanks for this!

    1. It’s good to hear that other people are having this conversation with their kids too. I have 2 girls, one a teenager and one in grade school, and I use every teaching moment I can find to educate them and guide them. I’m contending daily for truth against the lies of the modern day organized church, and the absolute heresy in the mainstream Christian music industry. It’s exhausting and my spirit is weary at times, but I find encouragement from people like you out there. God bless you! MARANATHA!

I liked the song, but I have to admit I didn’t interpret the lyrics in that way until now. Thank you for your insight. Discernment is needed in all things, even those deemed “safe for the whole family “!
