“I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead, and by appearing and kingdom, preach the word.” -2 Timothy 4:1-2a

How often do you hear sound, powerful, Spirit anointed preaching which reaches your heart, which moves you to action? I suggest that such preaching is exceedingly rare in our day. To be sure, many men are excellent expositors of Scripture. Their sermons are well formed, theologically accurate, and exalt Christ. However, something seems to be missing. We are seldom moved to action. We are seldom leveled to the dust, convicted of our sin, moved to repentance, and rarely do we find people saved from such preaching. Why is this so often the case?

  1. Powerless, ear-tickling teachings and sermons are the reason for the apostasy in the churches today. God will hold false teachers and preachers accountable for scattering God’s sheep who look for real spiritual food, but find none. They have allowed Satan to deceive and destroy many believers with their lies and watered down versions of the gospel of Christ. Jesus said ‘Woe’ to them for spreading hypocrisy and compromising the Truth of God’s Word.

    1. You are exactly right! The people seek teachers to tell them pleasant things and the hirelings in the pulpits have no problem keeping things copacetic to pacify the masses and keep the money coming in. Pastors speak of church growth as a goal, not acknowledging that it is totally unbiblical. In their efforts to grow, they water down the gospel, and soften the edges of the truth of God’s Word. As a result, there is no conversion of the sinner. People say a prayer, get baptized, and place official church membership without ever being convicted and repenting of their sin. As gut wrenching as it is to watch, we shouldn’t be surprised at the growing apostasy. God’s Word is clear about the last days we are living in. Thank you so much for taking time to comment! I am blessed and edified by the fellowship of brothers and sisters out their like you and Wyman. God bless and protect you!
